The Norwegian National Contact Point for Responsible Business Conduct (NCP) informs that the mediation meeting between a group of the Mapuche Williche communities of the Pilmayken territory and Statkraft AS has been postponed.
This postponement follows communications from both parties to the NCP indicating that the conditions for a constructive dialogue are currently not in place.
In recent weeks, serious incidents have affected local communities. NCP Norway wishes to convey its heartfelt condolences to the families, friends and broader communities grieving the tragic accident on the Pilmaiquén river last week in which the lives of two persons were lost.
NCP Norway remains committed to facilitating a constructive and respectful dialogue between the parties and will discuss possible next steps with both parties in due course. The NCP also recalls its duty to seek to support proceedings that are safe, accessible, equitable, and impartial.
